In Bed With…Shrankhla Holecek

Do you have a bedtime ritual?

I usually practice a self-massage and shower before bed, and do practice some type of facial massage – either free form or with a tool like our kansa wand. I apply Pure Rest or Pure Calm between my feet and on some nights I journal. I am particular about clean sheets and pillow cases, and I do make my bed every day so there’s an element of a ritual when getting into bed at night.

What do you wear to bed?

Airline pajamas or a cotton short set – usually acquired inexpensively from Target or J Crew.

What is on your bedside table?

A clear jar of about 8 facial tools (kansa wand, gua sha, Re Fa, cups!), our Intensely Nourishing Hair Oil, Pure Calm Wellness Oil and Absolute Anti Aging Body Balm & Lip Oil, Post-Its and a pen to jot thoughts, my journal and some work of fiction I’m reading at the time.

Do you have any recurring dreams?

An airplane crashing in the distance, showing up unprepared for an exam or not having enough credits to graduate – standard stuff I’m told!

Are you reading or watching anything good at the moment?

I’m re-reading Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca and Chuck Palahniuk’s Survivor right now. One of them is definitely better at bedtime than the other.

Which scent makes you think of bedtime?

Night jasmine in bloom.

What are some nighttime items you cannot live without?

Some style of lip balm and foot emollient, comfortable pjs, and bedroom slippers – I can’t stand to walk around barefoot.

What is your guilty pleasure?!

Wine, I suppose, in the copious amounts I consume it.

How do you engage in self-care?

Exercise and some form of self-massage are vital to me.

What do you consider the single most important thing for a good night’s sleep?

Cleanliness.

Did you have a bedtime routine growing up?

I went to boarding school so there was a communal aspect to it – brushing teeth together in the dorm bathrooms, the mandatory lights out, the sneaking over to a friend’s bedside to finish a story or start one – I wouldn’t say it was geared for relaxation but we started early and had very full days so sleep wasn’t ever evasive!

What was your favorite childhood bedtime story?

Hmm… I think there was one my dad used to tell – I’ve forgotten it and I’m certain he made it up because I’ve never heard that bedtime story anywhere else. Coming to think of it he was featured in it, so yes, definitely made up.

What is your skincare and beauty routine like? Do you have any holy grail products?

It’s minimal but I always follow it. I cleanse, tone and use our face oil. I’m a huge fan of gentle exfoliation and sunscreen.

If you could choose a song to wake up to every morning, what would it be?
